Final-year project mentoring: we guide, you build

A mentor who supervises your final-year project from idea to viva. You write the code and the report; your mentor teaches, reviews and asks the questions your examiners will ask.

Who it’s for

  • Final-year BS Computer Science, Software Engineering and IT students
  • Students starting a project and unsure about the idea or the technology
  • Groups that are stuck midway, or behind their supervisor's milestones

Before you start

  • Your project proposal or idea, and your department's FYP guidelines and deadlines.
  • Access to your own code repository and documents, so the mentor can review them with you.

Problems we help with

  • An idea that is too large, too small or not original enough
  • Choosing a technology stack and architecture without experience
  • Bugs and integration problems that block progress
  • Little time with a busy university supervisor
  • Nerves before the viva and final presentation

We never write your project

We do not write project code, reports, documentation or any work you will submit for marks, and we do not help present someone else's work as yours. If that is what you need, we are not the right service.

Topics covered

  • 1. Idea and scope

    • Refining the idea and checking feasibility in the time you have
    • Turning it into clear requirements
    • A development plan with milestones that match your deadlines
  • 2. Design review

    • Choosing the technology stack, and the reasons for each choice
    • Architecture review: components, data flow and database design
    • Diagrams for your proposal and report, drawn by you and reviewed together
  • 3. Progress check-ins

    • Regular meetings against your milestones
    • Technical tutoring on the concepts your project needs
    • Code walkthroughs and debugging sessions, with you at the keyboard
  • 4. Code and report review

    • Feedback on code quality, structure and security
    • Testing: unit tests, test cases and how to report them
    • Feedback on the structure and clarity of your report, which you write
  • 5. Viva preparation

    • Presentation and demo rehearsal
    • Practice questions on your design decisions and your code

How lessons work

  1. Supervision, not substitution

Your mentor works like a second supervisor: explaining, reviewing and asking questions. Every line of code and every page of the report is yours.

  2. Within your university's rules

Mentoring follows your department's guidelines. If your university requires outside help to be declared, we encourage you to declare it.

  3. Milestones you can meet

Check-ins are planned around your university's deadlines, so problems are found while there is time to fix them.

What you’ll be able to do

  • A project scope and plan you can deliver on time
  • Design decisions you can explain and defend
  • Practice finding and fixing your own bugs, and testing your work
  • Confidence presenting and answering viva questions about your own project

These are the aims of the lessons. Progress depends on the student’s starting point and practice, and we never promise grades or results.

Frequently asked questions

Can you write my project or report?

No. We teach, review and supervise, and you build the project and write the report. This protects your degree and makes sure you can answer questions about your own work in the viva.

Can I start mentoring midway through my project?

Yes. Many students start when they are stuck. The mentor first reviews where the project stands, then plans the remaining milestones with you.

Do you mentor group projects?

Yes. Tell us how many members are in the group and how you split the work, and we include that in the quotation.

Which technologies can you help with?

Tell us your stack when you enquire, for example web, mobile, machine learning or desktop, and we confirm whether a suitable mentor is available.

Is there a free first session?

Yes. The first 30-minute session is free, so you can discuss your project with a mentor before deciding.
