Online English tuition: grammar, comprehension and writing

Live one-to-one English lessons that follow the student's own textbook and board. The tutor explains the grammar, reads passages with the student, and works through essays, letters and answers sentence by sentence until the student can write them alone.

How lessons work

  1. Start from the student's writing

In the free 30-minute first class the tutor reads something the student has written and finds the patterns that need work.

  2. Follow the student's own syllabus

Lessons use the student's textbook, board and past papers, so tuition supports classwork and exams.

  3. Rule, example, then the student's own sentence

Each grammar point is explained, shown in an example, then used by the student in their own sentences until it sticks.

  4. Plan, draft, improve

For essays and letters, the student plans with the tutor, writes a draft, then improves it from the tutor's comments.

What you’ll be able to do

  • Use grammar correctly in their own writing, not only in exercises
  • Answer comprehension questions in their own words
  • Plan and write organised essays, letters and applications
  • Write answers in the format their board or examiner expects
  • Know which skills are secure and which need more practice

These are the aims of the lessons. Progress depends on the student’s starting point and practice, and we never promise grades or results.
