Data Structures and Algorithms tutoring, one-to-one

Learn how the common data structures work inside, how to analyse an algorithm's running time, and how to pick the right approach for a problem. Every structure is drawn, traced by hand and then implemented.

  • First 30-minute class free
  • Live, one-to-one, online

Who it’s for

  • University students taking a DSA course
  • Students preparing for technical interviews or coding tests
  • A Level and FSc students who want a head start

Before you start

  • Confident programming in one language: C++, Java or Python.
  • Basic Object-Oriented Programming helps, especially for linked structures.

Problems we help with

  • Big-O notation that feels abstract
  • Pointers and references that break linked lists and trees
  • Recursion that is hard to follow
  • Not knowing which data structure a problem needs

Your assignments stay your own

The tutor teaches, traces and reviews with you, but does not write graded assignments or contest solutions for you to submit.

Topics covered

  • Analysis

    • Time and space complexity, Big-O notation
    • Best, average and worst cases
    • Recursion and recurrence relations
  • Data structures

    • Arrays, strings and dynamic arrays
    • Linked lists, stacks and queues
    • Hash tables
    • Trees, binary search trees and heaps
    • Graphs and their representations
  • Algorithms

    • Searching and sorting: binary search, merge sort, quicksort
    • Graph traversal: breadth-first and depth-first search
    • Shortest paths
    • Greedy algorithms and dynamic programming

How lessons work

  1. Trace it by hand

Before writing code, you draw the structure and step through the algorithm on paper, so you see what each line has to do.

  2. Implement it yourself

You write each structure from scratch in your course's language, then compare it with the built-in library version.

  3. Analyse every solution

Each program ends with the same question: how fast is it, how much memory does it use, and could it be better?

What you’ll be able to do

  • State and justify the time complexity of your own code
  • Implement lists, stacks, queues, trees and graphs from scratch
  • Choose a suitable data structure for a given problem
  • Solve problems with recursion and dynamic programming

These are the aims of the lessons. Progress depends on the student’s starting point and practice, and we never promise grades or results.

Frequently asked questions

Which language do you use for DSA?

C++, Java or Python, the one your course uses. The ideas are the same in every language.

Can you help me prepare for coding interviews?

Yes. The tutor can focus on common interview problem types, explaining your approach aloud, and analysing complexity.

What should I know before starting?

You should be able to write programs with loops, functions and arrays without help. If you are not there yet, start with Programming Fundamentals.

See Programming Courses

Is there a free class?

Yes, the first 30-minute DSA class is free.
