Object-Oriented Programming tutoring in Java, C++ or Python

Understand classes, inheritance and polymorphism well enough to design your own programs. Lessons use the language your course is taught in and are built around writing and refactoring real code.

  • First 30-minute class free
  • Live, one-to-one, online
  • Female tutors on request
  • Reply within 24 hours

Who it’s for

  • University students taking an OOP course, usually in the second semester
  • FSc, A Level and O Level students meeting classes for the first time
  • Self-taught programmers who want to structure larger programs

Before you start

  • Comfortable with variables, conditions, loops and functions in one language.
  • New to programming? Start with Programming Fundamentals first.

Problems we help with

  • Knowing the definitions of inheritance and polymorphism, but not when to use them
  • Class diagrams that do not turn into working code
  • Confusion between a class and an object, or between overloading and overriding
  • Programs that grow into one long file that is hard to change

Your assignments stay your own

The tutor explains, reviews your design and helps you find bugs, but does not write graded assignments or lab tasks for you.

Topics covered

  • Foundations

    • Classes, objects, fields and methods
    • Constructors, destructors and object lifetime
    • Encapsulation and access modifiers
    • Static members and constants
  • Inheritance and polymorphism

    • Inheritance and method overriding
    • Overloading, and how it differs from overriding
    • Abstract classes and interfaces
    • Virtual functions and dynamic dispatch (C++)
  • Design

    • Composition versus inheritance
    • UML class diagrams, and turning them into code
    • Introduction to SOLID principles
    • Exceptions and error handling

How lessons work

  1. Model something real

Each concept is introduced through a small model, such as a library or a bank account, that you build and extend across lessons.

  2. Draw, then code

You sketch the classes and their relationships first, then write them, so the design and the code stay connected.

  3. Refactor on purpose

You change working code to add a feature, and see which designs make that easy and which make it hard.

What you’ll be able to do

  • Explain encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism and abstraction with your own examples
  • Design a small set of classes from a written problem
  • Choose between inheritance and composition, and say why
  • Read and write UML class diagrams that match your code

These are the aims of the lessons. Progress depends on the student’s starting point and practice, and we never promise grades or results.

Frequently asked questions

Which language is OOP taught in?

Java, C++ or Python, whichever your course uses. Tell us when you enquire so the tutor prepares in that language.

Am I ready for OOP?

If you can write a program with loops and functions on your own, yes. If not, a few lessons of Programming Fundamentals first will make OOP much easier.

See Programming Courses

Can lessons follow my semester?

Yes. Share your course outline, and the tutor follows its order of topics and uses its style of practice problems.

Is there a free class?

Yes, the first 30-minute OOP class is free.
